25 अप्रैल को रफीगंज रेलवे स्टेशन के स्टेशन मास्टर द्वारा रेलवे ट्रैक पर एक अज्ञात लड़की का शव होने की लिखित सूचना देते हुए शव रफीगंज थाना को सुपुर्द किया गया। रफीगंज थाना द्वारा शव का पोस्टमॉर्टम कराते हुए स्टेशन मास्टर के समर्पित आवेदन पर रफीगंज थाना U. D. कांड संख्या -03/23, दिनांक -25/04/23 दर्ज किया गया था। पुनः जानकारी होने पर मृत लड़की के परिजन रफीगंज थाना आये एवं शव की पहचान किये। मृत लड़की के परिजन (भाई) द्वारा लड़की के साथ दुष्कर्म कर हत्या कर देने और साक्ष्य छुपाने के नियत से शव को रेलवे ट्रैक पर फेंक देने सम्बंधित आरोप लगाते हुए आवेदन रफीगंज थाना पर दिया गया। तत्पश्चात मृत लड़की के भाई द्वारा समर्पित आवेदन पर रफीगंज थाना कांड संख्या -164/23 दर्ज किया गया।मामला पुलिस अधीक्षक, औरंगाबाद के संज्ञान में आते ही उनके द्वारा तत्काल अंचल पुलिस निरीक्षक,रफीगंज अंचल के नेतृत्व में विशेष अनुसन्धान दल (SIT) का गठन किया गया एवं कांड का त्वरित उद्भेदन हेतु निर्देशित किया गया, जिनके द्वारा तकनीकी,भौतिक साक्ष्यों के आधार पर अनुसंधान जारी है।
